Guides

Everything we publish sits in one of five areas. Each one collects the guides for a different part of the bed, because the decisions interact: the base you choose limits which mattress works, the mattress decides which sheets stay on, and the frame underneath decides how long any of it lasts. Every guide below is live; the blog lists them newest first if you would rather see what changed recently.

Adjustable beds

Bases that raise the head and knees, split king setups, and the mattresses and bedding that actually work on top of them. The base is usually the first decision because it limits every other one.

Mattress types

Memory foam, hybrid, latex and innerspring are four different constructions, not four brands of the same thing. How each one feels, how long it lasts, and how to keep it that long.

Mattress by sleeper

Firmness worked out from how you sleep and what you weigh, rather than from a brand name. Pillows belong here too: loft changes what firmness you need underneath.

Bed foundations

What goes under the mattress decides how long it lasts and whether the warranty holds. Slat gaps, box springs, bunkie boards, platform beds and how to get rid of the old one.

Bedding

The cheapest layer to change and the fastest fix for a bed that is almost right. Toppers, pads, comforters, duvets, sheets and how often any of it needs replacing.

How we work

We are a small independent research team, not a retailer and not a lab. How we research sets out exactly how products are selected and verified, our affiliate disclosure explains how the site makes money and what that does and does not affect, and the contact page is where corrections go.
